As we embark on an exciting new year, the Board of Directors would like to thank those that volunteered their time and skills over the last year and assisted in our efforts to make our community the best that it can be:

This is by no means an all-inclusive list, and please accept our apologies if your name was left off inadvertently. We truly appreciate your help and look forward to working with you in the coming year. The strength of our HOA relies heavily on the involvement and participation of its members. As we seek to increase the number of social events and improve the neighborhood, we would like to solicit your input and help towards that end by forming a Communications Committee made up of various homeowners. This committee will help disperse information to other homeowners as well as provide a springboard to other \"committees\": for example, a \"Pool Committee\" to oversee that the pool contractor we hire is performing their duties properly, a \"Special Events Committee\" to foster community spirit through social events throughout the year.

The Annual Homeowners Meeting for LRCA was held December 7, 2011 at Farney Elementary and we're proud to say that quorum was met handily. This means that the elections that were held are valid and the following were elected to the Board of Directors:

As a reminder, the Lakeside Residential annual maintenance fee is due by January 31, 2012. All homeowners of record as of November 2011 should have received a statement from PCMI via regular mail. Payments can also arranged through PCMI's Online Payment Center at www.pcmi-us.com.

When you finish a good book, do you wish you had someone to discuss it with? A new book club is forming in the Villages of Cypress Lakes. Meetings will likely be on weekend evenings at the homes of club members. We will have an organizational meeting to work out the details. Thank you to Dora Zertuche (Cypress Lake Village Drive), Chuck Pitts (Magnoliabough Place), Kelly Ulanday (Elm Square Street), Bryan Rose (Elm Square Court), John Sterling (Lodgepole Pine Street), and Lisa Vicknair (Live Oak Bend Way) for volunteering as Block Captains. Block Captains are the backbone of a successful association and a safer community, and we encourage volunteers interested in keeping their neighbors well-informed.

Our neighborhood board meetings are open to all homeowners; please feel free to join us and share your ideas for improving the community. The next board meeting will be at the Cypress Crossings Christian Church (15751 Cypress Rosehill Rd.) on February 22, 2012 at 7:00 PM. Come out, share your ideas, meet others in your community and get to know the current Board Members.

Water and Trash Billing - Billing for trash services is processed through your water bill. It is applied to the residential sewer item on your bill. Any questions contact Houston Residential (WCA Waste Corp) at 281-368-8397 and/or Severn Trent Services at 281-579-4500.
" + " | The petition drive ( parking_petition.pdf) to request Harris County Commissioners Court to post signs similar to the image to the left that prohibit the overnight parking of commercial motor vehicles in this subdivision continues. The petition must be signed by 25% (202) of the owners or tenants of this subdivision before being considered. Signatures obtained currently stands at approximately 5%. If you wish to be involved, print a copy and circulate it among your neighbors. Remember sign only one petition and only one signature is allowed per address. Complete and partial petitions will be collected by Homeowner Director Cathy Shook. She may be contacted using the information provided at the Yahoo Message Group web-page.The State of Texas has provided statutes that allow for this request and its enforcement. Here is a relevant excerpt from the Transportation Code. In addition Harris County Commissioners Court has adopted procedures for subdivisions to follow to complete this type of petition drive. |

In addition this site issues security bulletins and announcements that alert computer users to vulneribilities that may be present in the software and hardware of the devices they own. Identity theft is a serious crime. It occurs when your personal information is stolen and used without your knowledge to commit fraud or other crimes. Identity theft can cost you time and money. It can destroy your credit and ruin your good name.

Residential Crime Prevention
Most residential crimes occur because the opportunity to commit a crime exists. One opportunity is created by the victim through carelessness and the lack of attention to security. Another is created by the criminal using skill, ruthlessness and daring. The objective of crime prevention is to deter, hinder and stop the criminal from carrying out an assault on your property.

Property Taxes
A visitor noticed that while combing through the Harris County Appraisal District property records a number of property owners are not taking advantage of a homestead exemption. A homestead exemption helps you save on taxes on your home. An exemption removes part of the value of your property from taxation and lowers your taxes. For example, if your home is valued at $50,000 and you qualify for a $5,000 exemption, you pay taxes on your home as if it was worth only $45,000. In addition to the homestead exemption there are exemptions for qualifying veterans, over-65, disabilities and over-55 surviving spouse.

Ask the Board | Board Responses
Board Meetings are currently held at 7:00 PM on the 4th Wednesday of every month at the Cypress Crossing Christian Church located at 15751 Cypress Rosehill Rd. and Huffmeister (behind the Shell Station). Although subject to change from time to time, the next meeting is scheduled for February 22, 2012 .
In an effort to streamline these meetings, the Board has adopted a format consisting of three parts.
Membership Forum: Members are allowed to comment on or discuss with the Board neighborhood, financial and/or regulatory issues.
General Board Business: Members are allowed to stay and listen, but not participate in the discussion by Board Members.
Executive Session: Members are not allowed to be present due to privacy concerns. The Board will discuss specific homes and private financial and deed restriction issues that need to be addressed.
A Membership Meeting is held annually during the latter part of the year (November or December). In order to officially conduct business at this meeting, a quorum of 10 percent of the Membership (in attendance or by proxy) is required.
" + "The annual assessment for 2012 is $450.00. This amount is due on January 1st and is considered late if received after January 31st, whereby the procedures described in the Collection of Assessments Resolution dated 7-29-2008 (see above pdf) are implemented.

Federal Pool-Drain Safety Law - The Lakeside Residential pool is compliant with the recent federally mandated swimming pool codes ( Virginia Graeme Baker Act) requiring new pool drain covers be installed in both pools to prevent injury and deaths from drain suction and entrapment. The law went into effect on December 19, 2008. Brief Summary
The Lakeside Residential Community pool season will begin on Saturday, May 28th, 2011. The pool is located at 18519 Cypress Lake Village Drive. In order to receive pool tags, residents must fill out the Application for Pool Tags Form ( pooltagform.pdf). Please mail or fax your form using the contact information provided on the form.

Pool rules will be posted at the pool. All swimmers shall obey the lifeguards and comply with the pool rules. Houston Recreation Management is currently the swimming pool management company that handles all pool operations, maintenance, trained lifeguards, swim lessons and pool party reservations.
